Government eServices Project launched today (Sep.3)

The launch of  the Government eServices Project aimed at making public service as efficient and as  people-friendly as possible will take place  today (3, Sep) at 5.00 p.m. Presidential Secretary Lalith Weeratunga will grace the occasion as  the Chief Guest. The venue of  the launch will be the “Sankathani” conference hall of the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA) - No: 28/10, Malalasekara Mawatha, Colombo 07.The project is a landmark step forward in the  fulfillment of a pledge contained in the Mahinda Chitanaya Vision for the Future , namely of bringing the computer to the village.The departments and projects under them where eServices will be launched today (Sep.3)are given in the table below. The table also indicates whether the project is based on SMS or online. In addition the Table indicates the type of the eService provided, whether information service or a paying service.

Special projects by ICTA for North and East Development

The ICT  Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) has introduced  special ICT projects for the uplift  of North and East under the eSri Lanka Development Initiative. Titled “ICT Projects for North and East”, the endeavour   aims at helping, in particular, disadvantaged communities living in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.

Leveraging on ICT and the rapidly growing use of the mobile phones, the these projects will be carried out in a  participatory manner. For this purpose in the first phase ICTA calls for expression of interest (EoI) in submitting creative and innovative ICT proposals that will  make the lives of people in the North and East more comfortable. ICTA intends to encourage  the creation of such ICT based   innovations that will make the lives of people more comfortable.

Sri Lankan Team moves ahead in the Global CyberLympics

What is CyberLympics?

Global CyberLympics is an international cybersecurity competition. There are teams from various countries participating in the competition.  The competition is carried out in different parts of the world including North America, Europe, Africa, South America and Middle-east and the Asia P acific.  It is hosted by the International Council of E-Commerce Consultants (EC-Council), a member-based organisation that certifies individuals in e-business and information security skills and supported by the Geneva-based International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

Team Selection and Sri Lanka's participation in the competition

Sri Lanka CERT|CC the national CERT (Computer Emergency Readiness Team) which acts as the focal point for cyber security in Sri Lanka, as part of its efforts to recognise local talent and provide the necessary platform to practise the skills of cybersecurity was involved in forming a team and preparing it for the competition.  The sponsor for the team was the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL). TRCSL also contributed to the success of the team by providing the necessary connectivity infrastructure and location for the team members to attend the CyberLympics
