Survey Dept. and ICTA concur for best GIS use

The Survey Department and ICT Agency of Sri Lanka  (ICTA) entered into an agreement  recently  to enable ICTA to  use digital base maps of Sri Lanka produced by the Survey Department.   The agreement was signed by ICTA CEO Reshan Devapura and Surveyor General  S. M. W. Fernando. 

These maps include the 1:50,000 scale maps of administrative boundaries  of the country’s provinces, districts, divisions and grama niladhari  areas. They also contain other base information such as roads and water resources.  
 
ICTA has already begun developing a centrally hosted Geographic Information System  (GIS) based applications suite to use data in various domains to transform  them into meaningful information in GIS format. In doing so ICTA will use the above-mentioned  valuable resource from the Survey Department. 
 
Referring to the facility, ICTA CEO said that these GIS maps and the applications made on top of them would help the Government and citizens in understanding, interpreting, and visualising spatial distribution of data in different domains.

LGC a fantastic and landmark facility: Lalith Weeratunga

The Lanka Government Cloud is a fantastic and landmark facility, says Presidential Secretary Lalith Weeratunga. 

Weeratunga said so while participating  at the soft- launch of the Lanka Government Cloud  (LGC)  in Colombo recently (17). Implemented by the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), the LGC is administered and maintained by Lanka Information Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. (LGII), a subsidiary of ICTA.

Once benefits are known people will come in search for the innovation

Speaking further on the occasion, Weeratunga said that once people know the benefits  that would accrue to them as a result of an innovation, they would make all efforts to use it. The Presidential Secretary said that the LGC was indeed a fantastic and landmark facility that should be made known. In this awareness creation the Government officials should occupy an important place.

ICTA calls for immediate action for preventing delay in GIC assistance to public

The ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) requests State institutions that have not provided information  about them to the Government Information Centre (GIC)  (1919) yet, to furnish  it immediately.

ICTA says that it made  this request considering the inconvenience the public  faced due to telephone numbers and other information not being available  at the GIC.
ICTA says that according to the eGovernment policy also Government Institution heads are bound to provide this information.

The Agency  says further that Presidential Secretary Lalith Weeratunga too called on   Government officials  to provide to GIC information about public services provided by the Government institutions. Weeratunga also emphasised on the importance of constantly updating the information  furnished to the GIC.
