Minister praises ICTA for making ICT part and parcel of people

Participating at the e-Swabhimani 2012 award ceremony held last evening (10) Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya commended ICTA for its great role in making ICT part and parcel of the people.

Gracing the Award ceremony held at Cinnamon Grand, Colombo as Chief Guest, in spite of a tight schedule, the Minister of Telecommunication and Information Technology stated further as follows:
“Sri Lanka’s children or adults will do great things if properly guided. Everyone, child or adult likes appreciation. It boosts everyone’s spirit. That is why this e-Swabhimani event that gives recognition to best e-content and e-content developers is so important. Referring to the great importance His Excellency the President attaches to ICT as evidenced by the facilities for ICT given through the 2013 budget the Minister said: Praise from opposition is a rare commodity. But the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka received even that towards the close of the 2013 budget debate.

ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) CEO Reshan Dewapura said that Sri Lanka was fortunate because its President saw ICT as a front runner of development.
Dewapura said so while participating at the inauguration of the South Asian Mobile Conference (SAMC) 2011 held for the second consecutive year in partnership with Etisalat Lanka Pvt. Ltd. in Colombo recently. “We are fortunate to have a leadership of a President who has recognized the development acceleration capability of ICT who sees it as a front runner in the country’s development agenda” , ICTA CEO attested.
Addressing a large audience including local and foreign experts in the field the ICTA CEO recapitulated at the outset the progress from SAMC 2010: “Building on the momentum of the 2010 success, this year’s events have grown to be even greater accomplishments. The Conference has attracted more international and local speakers and has been a bigger sell-out than last time. The mBillionth has received almost 50% more mobile content applications for the Jury process this year. This is ample proof of both the substantial and continuous development in our ICT journey as well as the phenomenal impact of the mobile sphere on the ICT sector. The South Asian Mobile Conference with its associated mBillionth Jury is an example of an enormous success emanating from a simple but innovative concept, ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) CEO Reshan Dewapura underlined.

South Asian Mobile Conference and mBillionth Award 2011, pivotal for regional empowerment: ICTA

The South Asian Mobile Conference and the mBillionth Award 2011 grand jury will be hosted by the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) for the second consecutive year.
Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya will grace the inauguration of the conference as Chief Guest at Hotel Galadari, Colombo at 9 a.m. on Tuesday 7th instant.
Following the conference, the mBillionth 2011 Award (http://mbillionth.in) grand jury will be held on June 8th and 9th at Pegasus Reef Hotel, Wattala. At this jury an eminent group of experts from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh will select the best mobile content applications in South Asia.
ICTA CEO Reshan Dewapura said that the South Asian Mobile Conference and mBillionth Award 2011 would be pivotal in regional empowerment. The conference will be an ideal opportunity for exchange of expertise. ICTA is pleased to host The South Asian Mobile Conference and the mBillionth Award grand jury for the second consecutive year. Regional conferences and awards are important in making the creativity of regional thinking guide the designing of products more suitable for the regions”, Dewapura emphasised.
Local and international experts will enrich the conference and contribute in sharing and exchange of valuable expertise . The names of keynote speakers and the titles of their addresses constitute a valuable indication of the fund of wisdom in store at this conference.
Among the key note speakers will be Impact Mobile Canada President and CEO Gary Schwartz who will speak on “Click2K’Ching: The Impulse of Economy”;, Mobillium International Founder and CEO and Mobile Entertainment – Americas Emeritus Chairman Ralph Simon addressing on “The latest from the world new media and cross media” and Dialog Axiata PLC Sri Lanka Group CEO Dr. Hans Wijeysuriya delivering address on “Leveraging the mobile last mile for inclusive ICT service fulfillment”.
