Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) has completed third Computer Literacy Survey (CLS) which presents the findings for the first six months starting from February 2009 – July 2009. Before this version of the survey, DCS had conducted two household surveys on computer literacy in 2004 and 2006/7.. CLS is to continue hereafter as a regular household survey in every year around.
In this survey, DCS has enumerated a nationally distributed sample of 10,150 households with 31,302 persons aged 5-69 years.
According to the findings, Computer literacy reported in 2009 in Sri Lanka is 20.3 present and showed over 25% increase from 16.1 percent reported in 2006/07.
The survey results have also revealed that about 13 % of the population aged 5-69 years has used the internet facility at least once during the last 12 month.
