Sri Lankan lawyer elected to Internet Regulatory Body

In a move that would enhance Sri Lanka’s image in the internet governance arena, a Sri Lankan based Attorney, Jayantha Fernando, has been unanimously elected as Vice Chairman of the ICANN Government Advisory Committee (GAC). The other two elected vice Chairs, besides Mr. Jayantha Fernando, the first Sri Lanka to be appointed to this prestigious position,   are Ms. Diagne Maimouna Diop of Senegal and Ms. Heather Dryden of Canada. The election became effective at the recently concluded Nairobi meeting.
Mr. Fernando ‘s name was proposed by the ICANN-GAC Chair, Ambassador Janis Karklins of Latvia and the nomination received support from 33 countries across all continents including US, UK, India, Malaysia, Tanzania, Sudan and Brazil”.
The US based Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) was created in 1998. ICANN's present mission is "to coordinate the global Internet's systems of unique identifiers, and to ensure the stability and security of the global Internet.

Colombo to host South Asia’s Mobile Content Conference and mBillionth 2010 Jury

ICTA partners with Etisalat & hSenid to promote mobile application development

The Information & Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), which functions under the Presidential Secretariat, will  host the first-ever South Asian Mobile Content Conference in Colombo on 10th and 11th of June 2010.

The one-day conference will be followed by a half-day workshop on mobile application development, which will provide practical guidance to the best minds in Sri Lanka on developing useful mobile applications.

“We are trying to bring the best Sri Lankan talent to the mobile content development field in South Asia, which will be a multi-million dollar market in the future,” said Reshan Dewapura the Chief Operating Officer of ICTA.

Over 25 high-level speakers all-around the world will share their views and strategic consideration on topics such as: Mobile Content Market Trends & Development, Mobile Applications, Enabling Rich Content to Mobile Consumers, Mobile Content Marketing and Revenue Modules in the Mobile Applications.

ICT workshop and exhibition in Jaffna this week

The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) has focused its attention on further improvement of the standard of life of the people of the North.

As one of the steps in this regard ICTA has organised a workshop and an exhibition at the Jaffna library today and tomorrow.

ICTA said that this event will be conducted to disseminate information on projects that will benefit especially farmers, women, children, small scale entrepreneurs as well as differently abled persons.

The workshop will be held today and the exhibition will be tomorrow instant. A special focus at this event will be creating awareness of projects initiated by the e-Society program of ICTA.
