Languaget should be optimized by IT: Prof. J. B. Dissanayake

Sinhala language far from being a dying language has many features that even some of the world languages lack. IT, a handmaid of the human mind, should be utilized to let the beauty of the language be optimized for the benefit of man. These views were expressed by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in Thailand, Prof. J. B. Dissanayake at the launching of ‘Bhasita’, the Sinhala font family produced by the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) held in Colombo recently.

Windows Vista and MS Office 2007 now Sinhala enabled

In a futuristic move to develop rural sector Information Technology (IT) literacy, Microsoft Sri Lanka recently launched Microsoft Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 in Sinhala. Speaking at the ceremony, Country Manager of Microsoft Sri Lanka Limited, Sriyan de Silva Wijeyratne, said that the people in the rural areas of the country could now learn IT with Sinhala integrated in Windows.

ICTA promotes ICT in local languages

The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) is promoting standards in the use of ICT in Sinhala and Tamil, and has been addressing issues relating to standard fonts and keyboards in Sinhala and Tamil, standard sorting sequences etc. The objective is to ensure that the benefits of ICT are taken to the majority of the people in Sri Lanka who prefer to use ICT in Sinhala or Tamil.
