Lanka Government Network (LGN)


Objective
The objective of LGN is to provide the necessary infrastructure to connect and facilitate exchange of information between all connected government organizations in the network.

Description
The network will be a highly available, secure and reliable backbone that connects all the organizations (initially 325 locations in 3 phases) of the Government of Sri Lanka. The organizations will be equipped with Internet, Email and IP based government-to-government voice services. The project will also address the basic hardware and Local Area Network (LAN) needs of the connected government organizations including providing Wide Area Network (WAN) connectivity to the LGN Hub. Additionally, a Help Desk, Desk Side support and Training will be supplied.

This network will provide the basic infrastructure across which all government information will flow. Therefore, this project will be one of the most critical in facilitating the overall Re-engineering Programme. While LGN will design and implement the required network infrastructure, the Lanka Gate project will deliver the required portal to take the government services to the citizen. Target Group
All Government Ministries, Departments, Foreign Missions, Provincial Councils, District Secretariats and Divisional Secretariats in the country.

  • A central hub to provide Internet, Email and Voice Over IP (VOIP) services
  • Appropriate hardware and networking facility to GoSL organizations
  • Secure connectivity to GoSL organizations
  • Centrally managed secure Internet, email access, VOIP to all GoSL organizations.
  • Centrally managed trusted secure connection and Virtual Private Network (VPN)
  • IT Training to government staff
  • Helpdesk and desk side support facilities
