GovPay Awareness Program Empowers Southern Province Public Officers
01 Aug 2025
As part of Sri Lanka’s mission to build a digitally inclusive and citizen-focused public service, the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), in collaboration with LankaPay, successfully conducted a GovPay awareness program for Southern Province public officers at the District Sectorial Office in Matara, recently.
The session introduced GovPay – Sri Lanka’s Government Digital Payment Platform (GDPP), which is transforming how citizens and government institutions handle payments. GovPay enables secure, convenient, and fully digital transactions, supporting the national vision of digital governance, financial transparency, and public service efficiency.

Over 200 participants attended the session, including the District Secretaries of Galle, Matara, and Hambantota, along with representatives from all Divisional Secretariats in the Southern Province. The ICTA GovPay Project Team and LankaPay representatives led the session, with resource persons Ms. Udari Vithanage (ICTA) and Mr. Migara Silva (LankaPay) providing hands-on guidance.
This awareness program highlighted how GovPay benefits both institutions and the public:
- For Government Offices: Faster and more efficient revenue collection, reduced manual workloads, real-time monitoring, enhanced accountability, and a stronger institutional image.
- For Citizens: Convenient, secure, and accessible payment options that save time, reduce travel, and ensure reliable service delivery—whether in urban or rural areas.

With 57 organizations already onboard and over Rs. 81 million processed digitally, GovPay continues to drive Sri Lanka’s national digital transformation agenda.
ICTA invites all government organizations to join this initiative to modernize service delivery and urges citizens to use GovPay for their government payments—bringing speed, transparency, and convenience to everyday transactions.
